Oil change (computer or 5,000 miles?)

I haven't had a problem with the dealer actually changing the oil, etc. My biggest problem is when they rotate the tires as part of "The Works" package. They do rotate the tires, however they never get the air correct.
I guess they are used to cars which normally have the same air pressure all the way around. Well the sticker on my truck says 55 psi in the front and 60 psi in the rears. My HD F150 came with OEM LT245/75R17 LRE.

After the visit, when I check the tires, I have 60# in front and 55# in the rear.

5000 miles, not impressed with the computer. One reason for that is driving up a long mountain road it was in 6th gear and I was watching the mileage bar graph, I locked out 6th and went to 5th and the truck felt better and the mileage went up. I tried this multiple times, if it can’t calculate how to get the best mileage are you really going to trust it to know when to change oil?

Yeah that's a lyin' *** dealer right there, didn't even do the job the first time. I for sure wouldn't be going back.

This....exactly. Most of my friends ask why I still change my own oil / rotate tires when they know what my work schedule and other things are like. Answer: because I can and that is how I relax and I will continue to do so until I can't.

To stay on topic; I am currently at 3600 miles since last change and have 67% life left per the monitor. Should be no issue going 5000.

I have religiously changed oil every 3000 since I was 16 unless I was going to Camp Perry which is about 3800 miles R/T for me. Then it gets changed either when I get back or at 5000. Now, with the '16 requiring 7.7 qts. I'm starting to like the idea of just going 5000 miles between changes and calling it a day.

i agree. With the added capacity and full synthetic 5000 is the number inwill go with too

I got a good laugh from the poster that thinks the Oil Monitor does more than count down miles and at the most factor in the number of stops and starts. I like my Ford but that's way too much faith in the company. Where do you come up with all the things you think it includes. Ford is purposely very vague about it.

If you plan on keeping the truck, I'd do it more frequently and not wait till the cluster tells you to do it at 2%. Cheap insurance for engine longevity. As mentioned, synthetic is the way to go as well (especially for us in the colder climates).

If you were talking about me, I was talking about Honda's (and I think GM's) oil life monitor programs. I found a good white paper about one/both of them at one point in time. Not real difficult for a mega-huge company with engine laboratories to program.

Ford's may be similar, or maybe they tick off 10% every thousand miles to enforce 10kmi/6month. Really, who TF knows...

I was talking about redsrock302 on page 2. First post says 5000 mile changes, then second post talks of all the hi tech inputs the Oil Monitor might include. A good hearted spoof on the Oil Monitor, the thing is how much of the public would believe the OM is a fancy program that factors in multiple inputs.

In my experience most of the folks using 10,000 mile drain intervals are leases or rental companies. Truck is gone by 30 to 60k and the affects of extended oil drains, if there are any, won't show up when they own it.

Decent oil and 5000 miles for me, I'd probably stretch that a bit but it's easy to stay consistent with changes at 5k. I can pick up something used and put it on that schedule pretty simply.
