No oil story fact or fiction 08 5.4l

Ok so this guy is telling me that he changed his oil and forgot to put any in. And then Drove 10 miles in city traffic before making any noise. added oil now its quite except if you drive a really long way then sometimes at idle he'll get a little phaser rattle. Gives it some gas and that goes away. My question is has anybody ever seen a 5.4 go 10 miles with 0 oil in it before making noise. I personally think he's full of s**t! what do you guys think?

Well, I have attended a few gatherings where they had a 50/50 raffel and drained oil from old vehicles, ran them for like $5 for 5 minutes while you tried to burn up the motor.
Used cars, motorcycles, even an old bus. Usually took most of the day at high idle and many off/on cycles to seize up, netting $1500-$1800 to the "winner".

Yeah, it's possible he did 10 miles.
I wouldn't buy that truck though. That engine is trash even if it does still run.
Drop the pan and I bet there is quite a lot of metal in it.

lol - RC's comment "I wouldn't buy that truck" was the FIRST thing that came to my mind!

Perhaps he has a magic 5.4 .

The 08' 5.4 may start for a second or two but will not run without oil pressure period . The fuel control solenoids require oil pressure to energize fuel to the injectors .

What is a fuel control solenoid? I am very familiar with the 5.4 3V and not sure what you mean.......

Sorry for the confusion ,I'm stuck in diesel mode , the reference to the FCS in heui injectors was meant for vct solenoids, no fuel concern . The last 5.4 3 valve no oil pressure concern I repaired had an oil pump failure , the engine would start but stall immediately .

I would think with "Zero" oil pressure it would trip the fail safe mode and shut down.

wifes sister had/has an 08 navigator 100,000 plus miles at the time, this was 2 years ago she drove the said vehicle from dallas to Albuquerque nm 800 miles the thing had been making a horrible engine noise the entire trip. She says she just got the oil changed at one of those fast oil change places and the noise started soon after. the thing sounded like it was on its last leg. I pulled the dip stick, dry as a bone. I ended up putting 6 quarts in before it would read on the dip stick. Motor went quiet, well quieter at least, and she is still driving the thing to this day. I would not have believed it either if I had not seen for myself
