Unhappy Newbie Questions about oil leak and engine light

Hey all,

Thanks in advance for any wisdom out there. About 2 weeks ago I noticed my 2018 F150 3.5L Ecoboost started leaking oil out of nowhere. My mechanic neighbor said it happens with these models and it's not a huge worry, just keep an eye on the oil levels. Yesterday my engine light came on which is always a gut-punch feeling. I drove to the dealership here in Salt Lake City and they told me it's two weeks before they can even look at it. I asked if I could still drive it and got an answer of "If you want to." You can see where this didn't instill confidence. I had to practically force him to pull a code. Here's what he got: P0365 and P0369. Since the light came on, I've noticed an intermittent loss of power and odd shifting/not smooth shifting around 4th gear. Any thoughts?

Bracing for a hit as I'm at 39,000 miles. Again, thanks in advance. You guys are great.

You need to find a new neighbor, I think. I'm still learning but I have not read anything about spontaneous oil leaks on any F150's. Some burn oil quickly, the 5.0's, but they don't leak it.

Two very basic questions that you could answer are - did you check the oil level via the dipstick? Did the dealer check the oil level? What is the oil level right now? And, where is the oil leaking from?

Your codes look like you might be low on oil and starving the phasers. Wild guess. That is very very bad. I'm just a rookie but I would check that oil level immediately and make sure that it is sitting halfway between the marks, engine cold. While the hood is open try to find the leak location.

Thanks BBXL,

I agree. He's a Volkswagen mechanic so I took it with a grain of salt. I'll check it now and return with some more info.

Cheers.

I would take it to a local shop and have them identify where the leak is located. Is it leaking onto the ground? If is started suddenly it could something as simple as a loose drain plug. You need to understand where the leak is - some can be fatal. Shut off the engine and CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL immediately if strange engine noises occur.

the fact that you noticed an oil leak, had lights/codes, and continued driving it without even AT LEAST first checking oil level is pretty scary (for sake of your truck/engine). This seems almost difficult to believe.

First, who said I didn't check the oil? Second, did you contribute ANYTHING of value to this thread or just revel in the opportunity to be "that guy?" Third, you must be real fun at parties.

Loose oil plug. Problem resolved with out issue. Thanks to those of you that actually helped.

Cheers.

Sorry, didn’t mean to offend you. I literally thought that this was a troll/fake thread.

Would still be nice to know what the oil level was. Must have been pretty low.
