Default Need help diagnosing issue

I am new to this forum, just joined. I have a 2001 Ford F150 (pictured in profile pic). My step father gave it to me after my SUV quit on me since he upgraded. He says if I put Catalytic Converters back on it (he cut them off a while back), this will improve the issue. It currently will drive just fine, but a little noisy. I drove it 745miles for the first time from Florida where he lives to Virginia, where I live. It ran fine with the exception of stalling on me once leaving a gas station. But it started right back up and ran fine another 100 miles home. Now that I am here, when I let it idle, it idles rough and eventually chokes out. It acts up the most when I am in drive and slow to a near or full stop. So i have to put it in neutral and give it a little gas so it won't chug and die. It has a brand new water pump and radiator ( don't know if that matters.) I am just seeking friendly suggestions and advice on fixing or improving the issue because I like the truck a LOT. Also, I should mention it was wrecked 2 yrs ago and my stepdad said it needs rear main oil seal replaced because it is pinched and has a slow leak so I am constantly checking oil levels and have arranged to have that replaced.
