long time f-150 problem

I got a 97 4.2 F-150

I posted this one last year and still have not solved it. Truck takes 3-5 secs to start when turning over, at red light starts to spudder if you put it in neutral it stops.

Idle airflow valve has been changed

Any other ideas?

Maybe stupid, but is your battery good, enough CCA's for your truck. Is the fuel injection system clean.

Any codes posted? Not remembering the 97 vintage of EGR, Didn't EGR valves stick open and cause engine problems at idle. If you have this type, disconnect the vacuum line, plug it with a golf tee and test drive. No problems change the EGR valve.

sounds like EGR valve to me. I had a Ram that did the same thing at 18,000 miles. Needless to say it is now sitting at the ford dealer. I replaced the gas cap to a 2007 Screw 4x4

I replaced the EGR and it still does the spudering.

This spudering only occurs when its hot out and sitting at a red light in drive. When im sitting there I have to put in neutral and the shaking stops. You in have to floor it to move and the truck has no power for 5 secs

Whats the best way to clean the fuel injection system? Bring it some where and get it done?

Maybe the neutral safety switch? It sends a signal to the computer to tell it when it's in park or gear and would affect the idle. Try to start it in gear and see if it works, just keep your foot on the brake.

That does sound like one or more weepy fuel injectors. Is this truck a daily driver. The outfit below will rebuild your injectors for 25 dollars each and their stated turn around time is 3 days.
