Long crank cycle key to start
I have a 2008 5.4 4x4 f150 that will long crank before starting. I can cycle my key 2 or 3 time and hear the fuel pump. Then I can crank and start it. When it is running I have plenty of power and smooth idle. I have read that this can happen when a fuel pump first starting to go out. I have also read that the fuel rail pressure sensor can cause long start as well. I was just checking on here to see if anyone else has had this problem and if so what fixed it. I don’t want to go and just throwing parts at it. I have put it on a scanner and no codes throw up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you have never checked your Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM) you need to take a look at that. The FPDM is located above the spare tire on a crossmember and they fail due to corrosion on the back side. Hundreds of posts on this forum point to the FPDM and you need to inspect before anything else.
BTW aftermarket FPDMs are often bad right out of the box, buy Motorcraft from dealer.
