Default Keeping a truck for 20 years/300k miles

Hi All,

I am curious for your reccomendations for maintenance if my goal is to keep a truck for 20 years/300k miles. (The truck is "simple" 2018 2.7 ecoboost screw 4x4 with towing and payload packages, XLT). My payload sticker is actually higher than the maximum in the ford brochure, so that should tell you how many "extras" I put on the truck...none haha. KISS truck.

If I had the goal of 20 years/300k miles of service, is the maintenance schedule as stated in the owners manual sufficient? Or should I modify it somehow?

Thanks!

edit: My guess is 60% commuting at 30-40 mph, 30% highway at 65 mph, and 10% towing at nearly max GVW and GCW.

well, what is your driving like. Always stop and go? highway? I still believe in 3k mile oil changes especially on the EcoBoosts,

Good question. My guess is 60% commuting at 30-40 mph, 30% highway at 65 mph, and 10% towing at nearly max GVWR ANS GCWR.

I would follow the severe duty schedule in the owners manual

I can't speak to the new trucks, but regular oil changes; 5,000 on my 4.6 and get on any issues before they get worse. Only real problem is a slow leak in the AC after 19 years and 208,000 miles on a 99 F150 scab 4.6 with the trailer package (back then it bought HD cooling, HD alt and HD battery in addition to the receiver hitch).

It's not an ecoboost but our Tribute went to the big graveyard in the sky at 298k miles in 12 years. Was running perfect one day then BAM!
I did regular 3,500 mile oil changes, 30,000 mile trans fluid & air filter. Only changed the coolant once and never did brake fluid. Everything else watch watched and replaced when needed - belts, brakes, ball joints, bearings and the like. ALL hoses were swapped at about 200k. This was an engine with probably 80% highway/20% city.
Regular maintenance is the key to any engine and modern engines are just made better than before and should last if you take care of them. Of course this is a generalization, there are some that just won't run that many miles no matter how well you treat them.
