Excessive Pinging after removing & cleaning fuel injectors
I have a 2005 f150 5.4 v8.
Just a month ago I removed the fuel rail and replaced 2 of the fuel injectors, cleaned the remaining 6 (with carb / throttle cleaner), and cleaned the fuel rail.
For a month I have had excessive pinging. It is noticeably louder early in the morning as I start up the truck the first time heading to work. Same as when I start up the truck leaving work to head home. Periodically the pinging will occur when driving down the road & interstate.
After about a week of pinging I placed a amsoil PI in the fuel to try and assist with the pinging. No luck - still pinging sound.
Any reasons to why the pinging would continue after cleaning the fuel injectors?
I would have hoped after a month the pinging would gradually be eliminated, but it does not seem to be improving.

Pinging is a predetonation issue. After cleaning the injectors they should have been bench tested for spray patterns. A cracked injector could put too much fuel into a cylinder and cause predetonation. The other possibility is timing. If the motor has lost electronic ignition timing (too advanced) for some reason, it will ping. Double check all the wire connections and the harness to be sure nothing was damaged during your previous work. A broken or bad wire can create this problem.
