Here is what my plugs looked like after 28k, 20k were Livernois tuned on my 2.7. Mainly 91 tow and 91 perf driven.

What is the build date on your truck? Definitely keep us posted. Thanks.

since when does "87 octane" and "performance tune" ever belong in the same sentence?

I never datalogged. It pinged pretty bad towing my boat uphill last wee. When I got home I dropped the trailer and did a test pull to see if the problem could be replicated. There was a severe ping at high rpm and a
code was finally thrown. Truck went into safe mode for a few seconds then everything went back to normal. I returned it back to stock at that point. Drove it all week to work with no noticeable issues until this Saturday when it started bucking while cruising.

That makes me wonder if the turbo blew a seal and the oil caused the plug issue. Their tunes are very conservative and I've never noticed anything out of the ordinary until now. Not sure on the build date.

I guess it should be called "better than stock 87 tune" lol

It would be great if you could confirm the build date for us, it should be listed in your driver side door placard. Otherwise, you can find it at the bottom of your window sticker.

I'm curious because there is a TSB on the 2.7 for trucks built between Apr 2016 to Jan 2017 - Depending on the truck some are getting new heads and some new long blocks. If your truck falls in that range it would make me wonder if it isn't related to that production issue in some way.

It picks up hp/tq across the curve and at least on mine made the truck a lot more responsive, noticeably so. At the track I ran a half second faster on the 87 performance tune, so it's definitely a gain. MPG didn't change.

I'll find out. It's at the shop now so I can't check right now. I bought it September 2016, but I doubt that helps determine a build date.

Except you might need a new engine.

Maybe. Maybe the tune had nothing to do with it.

You can't honestly believe that.

I don't know how much experience you have with tuning engines, but I've been messing with this stuff for quite a while now. This is a mild tune. Without diving into a tuning argument here, just look at the two posts above. One showing his spark plugs after running the same LMS tune I have, for much longer, and he's just fine. Then the other posts regarding a TSB on certain build dates in which heads and in some cases entire longblocks were replaced. Stock tuning.

I have found zero 2.7 engine failures due to bad LMS tuning. Will I be the first, maybe. Maybe not.
