Urgent Transmission Question! Might be paying thousands for a MAF Sensor
Here's the deal...
I bought a 2005 4.2L F150 XLT about four weeks ago. The guy I bought it from had the transmission rebuilt less than 5K miles ago. The shop that did the work is known to be a horrible shop. However, everything felt smooth.
It drove fine for 1 week.
There was a slight idle hesitation so I cleaned the MAF sensor with C&R MAF Cleaner. I let it dry for probably 5 minutes.
I drove it after those five minutes and about 20 minutes into driving at 60 MPH there was a clunk and it felt like the truck downshifted. Then between 0-10mph the truck jumped forward. I checked the MAF connection and it appeared okay, I let the truck sit overnight.
The truck ran fine for the next week. Then today same thing.. But the 0-20 jump forward was worse. It was unsafe to drive at this point.
I pulled into a Goodyear and they examined the truck and saw the transmission fluid was filled way to high, and they explained this MIGHT be the problem. They dropped the pan and inside the magnetic o ring was literally covered in shavings. A LOT of them.
The next step is getting a refurbished transmission. They have not considered the MAF sensor. Is this a good decision?

The mass air flow sensor only controls the fuel air mixture. I'm not sure what this has to do with transmission. Shavings in the pan are normal after 50 thousand miles not 5 thousand. Doesn't the tranny shop that rebuilt have a warranty? If not your only recourse is another rebuild but I'm not sure Goodyear is the right place to go.I'd have the pan cleaned, a new filter installed and a full flush and drive it for a while. Good luck.
