are you talking about something like the Fumoto valve?

I agree that it's a lot more satisfying doing the work yourself. but to be honest I paid another tech $20 and lunch to mount/balance the tires on my truck because they were so heavy (factory 20's), and I hate balancing with tape weights lol. and one of the fully certified techs there also paid me through the shop to install headers, exhaust, new tires, a short shifter, motor and subframe mounts as well as some other small things on his '06 GTO because he was convinced that every time he laid a finger on his car, something else broke lol.

as for maintenance, as long as you're comfortable with the intervals the manual recommends, that's your best bet. some guys insist on changing trans, TC, and diff fluids every 50k miles but 9 times out of 10 the fluid that comes out at that point is still good.
Thanks man... Im just approaching 50 000 kilometers on the odo, so i kind of dont want to get pooched.

I had a 2002 dakota 4x4, i got the truck at 80 000km, and was told by the salesman that the tcase and all fluids were changed. Anyways, i went to a lube shop, for 60 000kms, i "have Good color and fluid level on the tcase"....

So i got the truck on the hoist at AAMCO, my brothers friend couldnt get the fill plug off, then.... When he drains the tcase, it was all silvery and brown and red.

1800 bucks later, i had a rebuilt tcase. Put another 20 000 kms on it and this happened.

When i got out of the truck, i heard a semis Jake brake and my dog was in the box. I didnt even look at the truck, i just went straight for my dog.

I was pulled over on the side of the highway and doing some texting, when i went to pull out, a van moved into my lane that was 2 lanes over and he wasnt there when i looked for a few seconds prior.

Had that venture van been a foot n half closer to the white line, you boys would have never heard of me.

Also, this is what i lost, to get into my screw.

Question

WTF?

What's wrong with changing your own oil? i'd RATHER change mine myself because I am assured it was DONE RIGHT!

Besides, buy the recommended Motocraft filter (fl550s?) and the recommended Motocraft oil 5w-20 and you're set. Keep your receipts.
why would changing your own oil screw up your warranty if you did it right?

every time i go to the dealership, they ask if i'm getting my oil changes from them, because while on warranty, it's pretty strict about ford filters and ford oil... anything else, i'll be fed to the wolves.

The reciepts Only show that when/what/where you bought your oil.

You Cant prove when the oil you bought was put in, unless you pay a shop to do it.

I could go buy the oil and filter from ford, have it sit on my shelf for 3 weeks, then have it put in... Yet you Cant prove to ford....

Im pretty sure Im having a hard time explaining it, maybe someone could clarify for me.

I understand youre using ford product, and i understand you believe it shouldnt(or maybe doesnt) matter, but if my internals suddenly something fails, and ford trys to say i didnt do this or that right to try and deny me warranty, well... Id be pissed.

Dont get me wrong man, i got a wrench and a rag in the truck specifically for the oil plug, oil filter, and dipstick.
i never leave the lot without checking. Heck, the apprentice now lets me check while the truck is still in the air, and he shows me the dipstick level before closing the hood.

Im picky as ever when it comes to my truck, and Ill be damned if ford trys to deny me for owner abuse etc.

ah, yeah if you're only at 50000km you've still got quite some time before you need to start worrying about those.

yeah, as he said above me, sure you can show them that you bought the stuff. but you can't prove it was what went into it, or when. and when it comes to warranty, some dealerships will go to the ends of the earth to deny a customer a claim because warranty work is a pain in the *** for the parts manager, the tech, and the advisor because they use different parts and the work is flagged and recorded differently.

btw it's a FL500S filter, and 5W30 if you have an EB. 5W20 for anything else.

also, I don't know where so many guys get the notion that oil changes are done by a bunch of retards that don't know what they're doing. sure, someone may occasionally make a mistake but every tech I've ever known has taken pride in doing the job right because if mechanical failure is traced back to a mistake they made they're paying for it with their own ***.

I never let a single oil change leave the shop without starting it up for a few seconds to build oil pressure and then checking the dipstick and making sure nothing is dripping on the ground. every guy I worked with did the same.

Every damn oil change Ive done has been at ford, so ford has their records in THEIR computer.

You can buy the stuff, but ford would take a sample out of the oil pan(this Is where you could prove Its fords oil).... But you gotta document WHEN it was put in.

And dont trust jiffylube.... Look on YouTube for references.

Man, he can hate what i say all i want, but when you throw a rod or something goes wrong.... Hes gonna have one hell of an idiotic face when they ask him to prove it.

Fighting with warranty stuff is harder than getting blood from a stone after you win the court case.

yeah, it's not worth it. it hardly costs any more to have it done at the dealership over doing it yourself. my dealership profited one cent on each quart of oil. thats it.

also we were asked to note whenever we saw a jiffylube or similar filter on a vehicle that was still under warranty.

Well, i dont have a maintenance package either, so anything i do, Im flying at the seat of the book.... The book that no one reads lol.

Anyways, my first oil change from date of purchase was at 11400km. Yes, i was well over the recommended 8000mark, but i have been on the ball since. I may step 2000kms over, but Thats when money was tight.

None the less, for those out there not letting ford, or another reputable shop change your oil.... ITS YOU THATS LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE....

Ive been sleeping easy since.

I make receipts (book from wall mart) that state the date and time, and what work was done. I document everything.

But I have a mechanic (at work) that signs off on all of our ford fleet maintaining. So he initials my tickets even though I performed the work.

Do it yourself and take a photo of you doing it. Better yet, video tape it and be sure to use a newspaper showing the dates. As for me, I just change my fluids and keep my receipts.
