Disabling front differential '04
Hi guys,
New to the site and hope I can get some help.
Looks like the front diffy is toast on my '04.
It's a very high mileage truck and not worth putting money into. Is there a way to disable the front and just use it as a 2wd?
I will be the only one driving it so the fact the switch is still active isn't a big deal.
Thanks in advance.

I know in some 4x4 vehicles if you remove the half shafts the hub bearing assemblies will not support the weight of the vehicle, not sure about the f-150, but a friend of mine did a blazer that way and both front wheels collapsed in the middle of the road. Just something to think about.

on an '04 the shafts do not support the wheel bearing. I suggested he remove them
because he probably has either failed IWE's, failed IWE solenoid and or vacuum leaks
to the IWE's which would make them engaged all the time. this truck does not have
"hubs" and he stated the switch would still be active so I recommended pulling the
front driveshaft in case the switch was inadvertently activated
