Default Cat replacement, California compliant or not?

My 2007 F150 4.6 L has a California compliant catalytic converter on it now can I use a non California compliant catalytic converter as a replacement and will it run the same that is my question I'm not sure and I don't want to put the wrong converter on. It does say the vehicle conforms to all California admissions under the hood any help would be appreciated thanks

The California Cat will just have a bit more media to clean the exhaust better to meet the Cal requirement. Save your money buy the Fed Emission Car.

Thanx . I think I've come to same conclusion only thing left is taking a chance that I may still get a mil light for if I run a non California cat if computer is set to lower emissions level than a fed cat will emit. But as far as it running correct I believe you're right. Thank u for response. Derek

Just the rear O2 sensors basically reading the exhaust temp post cat, I don't think the system is sensitive enough to pick up the difference.

If you live in California, you have to replace with California CAT - in fact, you shouldn't even be able to buy a Federal Cat in California.

If outside CA, then there is still a possibility that the computer may throw a light based on the post cat O2 sensor reading.

Best wishes.

I dont live in California, actually east coast. I thought it may still throw a code but will it run correctly with just a lev2 converter. Thanx for your response.
