Calling all Master Mechanics... 5.4l Rebuild

Hey everyone.

Looking for a bit of guidance from experienced mechanics with the 5.4L in a 2004 F150 .

I purchased an updated rebuild and am prepping to do the Re&Re in a week or so when the current project is completed. Truck is a 4x4 xlt 2004 f150 super crew. Has about 170,000km (or 100k miles).

The rebuild has the "third" phazer revision and came hot out of Texas. I've done a weeks worth of research on this job and have found some useful tips. That said here are some questions...

a- on the 4x4 is it best to pull the tranny/engine together or take the intake off to reach the top trans bolts and only remove the motor. Any other tricks to make this easier??
b- what other parts should I replace (without saying everything) while I have the motor out and accessible? I am doing the motor mounts so its not something that I have to do a few years from now, but anything else suggested?
c- am I able to just move things like a/c to the side and still remove the motor?
d - anything transmission related that I should take care of at the same time thats a weak point? I know when I rebuilt the auto trans on my 04 escape, it was recommended to install a shift kit due to bad original design causing pressure spikes... anything like that here that I need to be aware of?

Thanks!!!

I saw your other thread. It looks like you're actually planning an engine swap, installing an already rebuilt engine? Not the same as rebuilding. Engine swaps are about maneuvering large masses around. With things like hoists and engine levelers. Different focus.

Good luck. Here's your other thread, for reference.

BB, you are correct. Poor wording. My bad.
Yes I already purchased a rebuild. To rebuild it here in BC would have been much pricier than buying it from a shop that imports it from Texas. This is more geared towards any advice from those who have pulled from this truck before As every car has its quirks I'd love to figure out these things before I'm elbow deep. :)

I've never specifically done an 11th gen, but have R&R'd plenty of engines. I have an 11th (and 12th) so I know the truck. I would leave the transmission in the truck. The intake would be a lot easier to remove than separating the T-case and then trying to wangle that mass of metal out the front. The radiator obviously has to come out, but to do an engine with trans. attached, I think you'd have to pull the core support as well.
