Default My son's 2002 manual transmission

Hi. My son bought a 2002 F150 and the clutch master cylinder level was very low. He filled it with fluid and tried to bleed it, but ended up removing a bolt from the side of the transmission instead. (He thought that was the bleed screw but it wasn't). He should have bought the manual first but didn't.

Anyway, this bolt is about an inch long and was about two inches to the right of where the hydraulic hose connects to the transmission. The problem now is that the screw won't go back in, it feels like there are no threads to grab.

What does this screw do, and how can he get it back into the transmission without tearing everything apart?

Thank you.
Jolie
