break pads ?

just wondering if I changed my brake pads if it would stop the surging feeling that happens when I apply the brakes? Not sure when this started because the wife drove my truck for a year or so.

Surging or Pulsating is caused by warped rotors. Warped because of heat. Maybe the rotors were already turned once and they are close to being too thin(get hotter quicker and warp). You can have them turned by a brake shop, or take them off and have them turned, I use NAPA. The shop can tell you if they are too warped or too thin to turn on the lathe. If you end up buying new ones, be sure to use a can a brake cleaner on the new rotors to take off the protective coating on them. The coating keeps them from corroding until sale. Remember to grease the slide pins whatever you decide to do. If you dont grease the slide pins, the caliper will not slide freely and could cause premature pad wear and or rotor warpage. The rubber flex lines to the calipers can collapse on the inside and not let the pistons retract fully causing the pads to stay against the rotors and could cause the rotors to warp.

Good Luck

So...did you get pads and turn the rotors, or just pads?

don't mean to hijack the thread - or do I - anyway, I just did the front rotors/pads on my 07 2x4...took me 6 hours because the friggin caliper retaining bolts were frozen...anyway, what are the gear looking thingies on the inboard side of the rotors? They don't connect to anything....

Will do the rears tomorrow
