Default Brake System Check

I just drove home in a 2012 FX4 F150, bought it today. 105k miles. Between test drive and ride home about 100 miles total, no issues. Giving a family member a ride, as I stopped the brakes seemed to lock up. The brake pedal was very stiff and it acted like it wanted to "push back" on me. "Check Brake System" light came up on dash. Grinding sound on front right only best I can tell when I apply the pedal but still very stiff and hard to apply brakes. None of this even remotely happened when checking and test driving or on the way home. I am not happy right now seeing this is my first ever solo purchase and need some help understanding what is going on. HELP!!

You bought a used vehicle so getting upset on a problem with it will not help. I've never heard of brakes locking up on there own. I'd try to get someone to scan the trucks codes.

You said Grinding on right front, sounds like a good starting point for you to look at.

Thank you for replying. True, and locking up was not the best term to use. Not locking up, just very hard to push the brake pedal and, when I do, it want to push back at me. No matter how hard I push it, it's like the truck is resistant to stopping

Sounds like a bad brake booster, and if it's an eco-boost engine, it could also possibly be the electronic vacuum pump.

JCR_56 - Any idea on cost of replacing the brake booster?

it is an eco-boost. I'm not familiar with them, this is my first experience. What exactly does that mean and, if so, any idea of cost of repair? Just trying to get an idea of what I've just gotten myself into.

Check with your local Ford dealer, they had a recall on the vacuum pumps for the brake booster, you might get it repaired free.
