Battery Spec - Not Brand Specific
Okay, first time replacing the battery on a truck. Not sure if it is the original battery or not. Likely not.
There are plenty of threads on which battery brand to buy and just turn into a debate as to which brand is best. I can read those without starting another one. Plus the manual probably will give me specs but, what I am looking for is real world data and experience.
What I want to know what is the most optimal battery spec to look for, such as cold cranking amps.
Truck: 2010 SCREW 5.4L with just over 78k miles.
I like in WI so I will want something that can handle the cold well also.
So, what should I be looking at spec wise?
Thanks!

Oh yeah, how important is it to follow the instructions in the manual? I really don't want to be sitting in front of the store for as long as it sounds like it will take. Especially after work.

When the oem battery in my truck crapped out about 8mnths old I put a wally world battery in it. Been cranking for over 4 years without a hitch. EverStart Maxx group 65. Costs less than $100, has a 5 yr warranty, first 3 years free, prorated after. Oh and the specs are over and above what oem is.
Best part is it's warranted nation wide and most Wal Marts are open 24/7.
Not sure what you mean about the manual, just change the battery like you would on any vehicle. Drop it in and roll.

Battery relearn
Because your vehicle’s engine is electronically controlled by a computer, some control conditions are maintained by power from the battery. When the battery is disconnected or a new battery is installed, the engine must relearn its idle and fuel trim strategy for optimum driveability and performance. Flexible fuel vehicles (FFV) must also relearn the ethanol content of the fuel for optimum driveability and performance. To begin this process:
1. With the vehicle at a complete stop, set the parking brake.
2. Put the gearshift in P (Park), turn off all accessories and start the engine.
3. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
4. Allow the engine to idle for at least one minute.
5. Turn the A/C on and allow the engine to idle for at least one minute.
6. Release the parking brake. With your foot on the brake pedal and with the A/C on, put the vehicle in D (Drive) and allow the engine to idle for at least one minute.
7. Drive the vehicle to complete the relearning process.
Of course, it then says:
If you do not allow the engine to relearn its idle trim, the idle quality of your vehicle may be adversely affected until the idle trim is eventually relearned.
So, I'll do as you say if that is all I really need to do and it will eventually learn it on it's own.

Trying to figure it out!
That's like 3-4 whole minutes. Especially if you drive the truck to the store since it will be at operating temp already.
I'm sure the dealer wouldn't take the time to do this though.

It'll relearn as you drive.

Thanks guys!
Rnlcomp, I looked up the Everstart Maxx. It’s come down in price but, their website there isn’t any at any store within a 50 mile radius. The only one they had listed that was a group 65 was only 650 CCAs. Is that the minimum you recommend?

I'd go down there as Walmarts inventory catalog for the net isn't updated as often as it should be. The group 65 battery covers a boat load of different vehicles. When I looked mine up it said 0 in stock. Got down there and they had 5 of them on the shelf.
