Default Battery Cover?

I've been searching for any information on the "Battery Cover" that is on my 2018 F150 Lariat. It has a part number of FL3T-10A687-BA which I can't find anywhere (plenty of "10A687" references, but they seem to be for other models.

I'm under the assumption that this is a protective "insulator" of some sort but part of mine is disintegrating when touched so I need to either find a replacement or just remove it.

Does anyone know "definitively" what the purpose of this is? (Keep battery warmer in cooler climates, protect from heat?)

Any info or URL's pointing to useful info would be appreciated.

If you have an AGM type battery something like an Optima, you should be fine getting rid of it.

My battery went bad earlier this year on my '18. Dealer replaced battery under warranty. I later noticed after popping the hood, the dealer either forgot to reinstall the blanket or purposely didn't put it back on the new battery. Either way, haven't had an issue since.

Its purpose is to protect the battery from engine heat; nothing else. And all batteries benefit from that - especially inferior designs, like Optima & other AGMs. I put them on all my trucks - I find them occasionally on ebay & Amazon. This seller still has plenty for Group 65.

Thx for the input! I've been able to find similar options available, just odd that with a specific part number I was not able to find any "official" info or exact replacements. I'm in AZ so I expect my battery will die either the summer of 2021 or 2022 (they only tend to last 3-4 years if you drive a lot due to the excessive heat. I'll get a replacement when I change the battery since the issue is only cosmetic for now.

From recent research: The battery jacket helps the battery retain heat in the winter and repel engine compartment heat in the summer.
Removing the battery insulating jacket can shorten the life of the battery by almost two-thirds, especially if you live in a hot climate.

NOTE- It did not reference AGM or wet batteries
