Question Emergency Brake Fails to Hold On Hill

I have a 2001 F-150 XLT, that the emergency brake will not hold the vehicle on a hill. I press the pedal almost to the floor, but I will still start to roll once I take my foot off of the brake.
Is there an adjustment that can be made to resolve this?

Thanks LawHugg

Your regular rear brakes are out of adjustment, or your pads are almost gone. When did you have your brakes checked last? The brakes are supposed to be self adjusting but sometimes they need to be readjusted depending on driving habits. The emergency brake is just a mechanical connection to the rear brakes, so you have to start there.

I thought the parking brake used small brake shoes that press on the inside of the disc hub?

A 200-1 could either be discs or drums, hard to tell without the OP saying what they have.

If they're drums, they could easily be just out of adjustment.

The pads were my first thought. I pulled the wheel, rear drivers side, and looked at the pads and there is plenty of materiel there. Of course there could be uneven wear on the other side, and I will check that today after I clean up the drivers side, and score the rotor while I have the wheel off. As far as adjustments, I am still looking for information on that. I may need to go to the library as I don't have a model specific manual.

If there is plenty of material left, then they are just out of adjustment.
