Adaptive Cruise Control Grinding Sound

Adaptive Cruise Control Grinding Sound
I have a 2018 f-150 with active cruise control. I have noticed that when the active cruise control is on and the vehicle is decelerating between the 40 to 10 mph range, the front driver’s side makes a grinding noise. It sounds like the ABS is kicking in even though it wouldn’t need it. I’ve heard this might be normal. Thoughts?

did you ever figure anything out about this? I just picked up an 18 Platinum that is making the same noise during tbe same speeds/braking.

Nope. But it’s continued to do it. It will get a bit worse. I looked online and it seems to be normal from what others have said about other vehicles adaptive cruise control.

Thanks for getting back to me. That is super strange, I will call Ford at somepoint to confirm. I cant help but think if it is the abs that it will wear down the brake pad more quickly right?

There shouldn't be any noise aside from normal deceleration. The ACC doesn't make any sounds.

A 2018 shouldn't be grinding, and of course the dealer isn't worried, it's not his truck.

I agree. It isn’t his truck. He didn’t know what would be causing it. However, I’ve looked on forums for other vehicles with adaptive cruise control and many report the same issue. The replies to those issues seem to indicate that the sound is normal and associated with the ABS. Note, this wasn’t Ford—I believe it was for BMW. I am going to have them look at it when it goes in for 10K mile inspection in a few months. I will report what they say then.

Ive read through the same articles and have to say the reasons make sense, but it seems like a really strange design as anybody in their right mind that hears it will register the sound as “bad”. Please let me know if you learn anything further and I will do the same.
also, I have had other vehicles with ACC that made no extra noise when it engaged the brakes, albeit the other vehicles were much lighter.
