The evaporator leak is a common problem on these trucks. I've read numerous examples. I've also read people replacing the evaporator, either out of pocket or warranty, and then having to replace it again a year later. I believe this is why Ford extended the repair warranty to 2 years instead of only a year.

Well I finally got around to putting dye in the system and sure enough there's a trail of dye coming out of the drain hole.

Me too. Welcome to the club.

Not sure if $1500 makes sense when my mechanic charges like $68 to recharge it. It's annoying but I plan on trading in the next couple years. This is covered under the Ford Protect warranties but they send an inspector out and I'm sure he would find that. There goes that idea.

Thats why you should have Ford do the repair with a 2 year warranty. Personally, I have not read any posts about a year later repair again. I would need to know more about who did the repair and what brand repair parts were used to better understand the issues you refer to.

If your truck is sound and you (had) intended on keeping, I would have ford make the repair.

It's looking more and more like the best option for me. Gonna call my service writer again. Ugh. I was about to buy some new tires too. Ooh well. Lol.

Im thinking that leak will get worse in time. Also the lack of oil will shorten compressor life.

I think you are correct here. This is why im so on the fence. I wish Ford would just cover it even though im at 52k. A known issue, they should cover. I wanted an F250 but I have been looking at the 2500 Denalis on the road trying to picture owning one and its becoming easier. Even though im a couple years form buying one.

Well after weighing all my options I've decided to bite the bullet and have my Ford dealer make the repair. I just don't have the time to do it myself. She goes in on Monday.
