Default 97 f150 4.6 misfire

new plugs and wires, when scanned p0304 #4 misfire, no leaks on it from heater hose, took new plug out soaked, hooked it into the wire left lay out it is firing, any suggestions?

just swapped injectors to see if was stuck open, no change, weird thing is this thing runs great out on road, smooth and powerful, just chatter sound at idle and miss at idle

this doesnt have the cop, and i checkes spark on that wire all seems good, very wierd cause once out on road runs great, just chatters and idle miss, cel of p0304

when mine did that it was the plug but i had all the coils checked mine is a 2002 tho wish i could help ya bud

i appreciate urt input, i have tried everything, even changed plugs from diff cylinders they r all new mc plat, warner wires, swapped injectors also, when running unplug injector that cylinder and no change, ok so dead cylinder? but how can it run perfect out on the road? i mean perfectly, this is a new 1 form me

Misfires get masked at higher RPMs (also in vacuum leaks). No other codes? Did you disconnect the battery after you swapped out the plug/injector - and allow the PCM to relearn everything?

didnt disconnect bat, just cleared with scanner, and p0304 comes rt back, but was gonna take valve cover off but looks like no room to get it off, see what the chatter is, maybe a rocker off

Like the '98, the '97 has the coil pack of 4 on each side of the engine. Just wondering if that is the problem, since you've changed plugs/injectors and is still in the same location. I find very little in this truck that is easy to get to, maybe except the throttle body.
