Question 93 Overheating

I am pretty new to this. I just got a 93 4x4 with a 5.0 and it's overheating. It is leaking coolant but I don't know where from. Under the truck is a line of coolant from one side of the truck to the other (like it's hitting a fan or belt and being flung in a straight line.) I don't know if this is a water pump issue or a hose leaking somewhere.

I have to ask because it's not always obviously.

Do you know the difference between "overheating" and running hotter than normal? What symptom do you have that indicates over heating, or even hot for that matter?

Nothing in your post suggests overheating so it's a bit uncertain what the question here is. It sounds like you are asking us to tell you where a leak is coming from?

You will probably need to start poking around looking for the leak. Check the fittings of the upper and lower radiator hose. Look under the radiator to see if a leak is present. I think there is a rubber splash shield blocking your view of the radiator. The rubber flap can be pushed up, folded a little and lowered down. It is only secured on the front or the back (can't remember -been too many years since I've been under a '93.
Wipe the underside of the water pump nose dry. Check back soon or another time to check for leaks. The water pump has a weep hole on the bottom of the nose, if leaking it would be evident there. If it is the water pump area but not the nose -then the water pump gasket is letting go and water pump and gaskets will need to be replaced.

Not sure where else to go from here without additional information.
