Update 2
Yeah, can’t really know unless you’re hands on.
Either way, I won’t have to worry about it anymore. I went into the dealership, plead my case to some people of authority and they gave me another truck! The techs hadn’t figured it out, they escalated it to ford Canada but they couldn’t advise on the situation becuase we couldn’t consistently recreate the problem. So, essentially, nobody knew what was wrong or how to fix it.
I hope nobody else runs into this issue! Thanks for the help though

Last week I picked up a 2017 lariat fx4. Beautiful truck, 502a package. This thing has more features than I know what to do with. It has every feature I want besides one: the ability to start consistently.
3 days ago I tried to remote start it from the app but was told it wasn't successful. I went in line of sight of the vehicle and tried the remote starter on the key fob. Still nothing. I went out and sat in it to try anwd start. Nothing. I can hear a single "click" from the engine bay but no crank, no start. I thought, "maybe it's been sitting outside in Alberta for almost two winters without being driven and the battery is shot."
called for a tow, he arrived and tried to boost. Nothing. No crank, no start. I have full power acccessories, truck in in park. No indicator lights.
had it towed to the dealership but they couldn't get to it until the next morning. The following afternoon they said they went out to boost it to drive it in and it fired up no problem. No codes, battery fine, alternator fine. No idea what's wrong, can't recreate the problem.
I picked it up thinking it was a one time thing.
This morning, the problem returned. No crank, no start but full power accessories. Only one single "click" can be heard from under the hood.
Its been cold cold up here the last little while, -20 to -30. When the truck DOES start, it sounds strong and not laboured at all. I had the truck plugged in today for a few hours and still nothing worked.
I called the tow and when he showed up I tried again, nothing. I waited a few seconds and tried again, sure enough it started without any problem. I still had it towed to the dealer and they still couldn't find a problem with it.
Theyre keeping it for for the weekend to see then on Monday if they can create this problem. I have two videos of me trying to start the stupid thing.
Whats worse is I traded my 2014 sierra for the F150 becuase I was having problems with it starting in the winter and was tired of dealing with GM. Just my luck.
Anyone have any clues?

I bought a new 2017 F150 in September of last year. About 2 months after I bought it I went out to leave and when I turned the key, nothing happened, not even a click. I tried it again and still nothing. First thing I thought was my battery must be bad even though it is a new vehicle. I pulled the key out and turned it around and tried again and it started with no problem. about 3 months later the same thing happened. I tried pulling the key again and turning it and still nothing. I kept trying to turn the key and on the 6th or 7th time it started. Since then it has happened at least 5 or 6 more time. I finally learned that if you just turn the key and hold it for about 5 or 6 seconds it will finally crank. This is obviously a problem with defective solid state ignition components but the problem for me will be getting it to replicate if I send it in to the shop.
I duly noted your trick about holding the key 5-6 seconds and advised my dad to try this next time the problem occurs. I would appreciate a situation update from your part to know if:
1- Does this trick still work for you ?
2- Did you/your dealer finally solved this and how ?
Thank you !!!

Pinging on this thread again. Same exact issue with my 2017 502A. I have a brand new Interstate AGM battery. Truck was originally sold in Canada then imported into the US last year. Is this a common thread?

I have this problem right now. I checked all fuses and put in a new battery. I had it towed by Ford under warranty. Dealer just called and it's the starter. I hope they've updated and strengthened it between when it was built (Dec 2016) and now.

Happy new year to all F150 owners. This problem just started for me. Have a 2017 F150 with 3.5L, only 28k miles. I have intermittent no starts, with a single click being heard under the hood, with no crank. Had full power to all the lights and gauges. Took it to auto parts store and battery tested just fine. If anyone had any new insights would greatly appreciate it! Feel like this is going to be the beginning of a long frustrating experience.
