Default 2015 XLT 5.0 having VCT issues??? Advice please

I’ve put 108,000 miles on this truck since I bought it. I change the oil religiously 5,500-7000 miles. The issues began about 15,000 miles ago. I blamed the rough idle on the crap gas we were getting delivered to the tank at work. I used to put two cans of seafoam and a bottle of octane booster and it would clear it up. Now the truck idles rough no matter what and dies at lights and when parked. Took a week but finally got a light. P0022. I spoke to a ford mechanic in another forum and he told me it was my VCT solinoid on the drivers side for the intake cam. So I jumped 12v to it and cycled it on and off a few time and it seems to have freed it up a bit. Truck still idles “alright” I can still tell it’s not right. It’s not stalling anymore thou. Here is my question.......

- the mechanic i spoke to said just change the solinoids

- ford service guy I deal with said it needs new solinoids, and phasers, and timing chains, and guides!!!

Do do you guys think that changing the solinoids is enough??

Also so now that it isn’t stalling anymore I was considering dropping the tank and looking for trash at the fuel pump pickup screen. I don’t trust this gas and feel that a clogged sock could cause rough idle. Am I wrong in thinking that??

The first thing I would do is quit using that gas, even if you're getting it free.
