2015 5.0 - Push to Start, Cuts out while starter cranks
2015 F150 Lariat 5.0 - 118,000
First issue I've had with this truck. Wondering if any of you have experienced this as I couldn't find any threads on it. When I push to start truck it will either do one of four things. 1 - start up first try no problem 2 - starter will begin to crank and cut off starting surge halfway through and not startup truck 3 - click and nothing will happen for half second, then starter will crank but only half a cycle and not startup truck 4 - click and nothing will happen and not crank at all. When I first noticed this it would only happen every 5 or so starts, now its every time and it usually won't crank at all until the 3rd try. Also I the problem didnt arise until temps dropped as I live in Minnesota. I replaced spark plugs at first thinking it was a bad plug. That didn't do it. Battery is good I had it checked. Changed key FOB battery. If it was the solenoid wouldn't it just not crank at all? And obviously starter itself works because when it gets a full startup surge cycle there are no issues starting. Hard to believe its a bad wire connection because truck is still so new. Can the solenoid slowly start to go bad giving me intermittent issues? Could it be the Starter Relay Fuse? Any Ideas or has anybody had this issue? I can make video and post in thread if that helps? Thanks for reading, Josh |
Also, the truck runs perfectly once running.

I personally believe its a bad battery. Cold does weird things to warn out batteries. Despite the test saying it was good, I imagine the test occurred after you drove the truck to the auto-parts store to test it? That would have given it a bit of charge and rejuvenated it. The fact that it started occurring once it got cold is a bad battery give away in most cases. I am not saying the battery is completely bad yet but its on its way out.

Sounds like battery to me also......on it way out, even the mild winters down here play hell on batteries.

Thanks for the help though! I hope this helps anyone else that has this issue. |

I got some advice from a friend who listened to cutting out sound while starting and he said it sounded like the gear in the starter wasn't engaging. So....replaced the starter and its good to go, nice clean startups every time. I look forward to using my remote start again in these negative degree temps.
