2013 tranny flush
Hey guys, my 2013 XLT has 34,000 miles on it now. My dealer service is insisting that I do a tranny flush ($279). I looked through my manual and called Ford to see if this was required at this maintenance interval for warranty purposes. The manual doesn't list it (so it isn't required) and Ford also said it isn't required. What's your experience? I want to take care of my truck, but also don't like wasting money.

Hell no. You can do it if you want, but you can do it yourself for farrrrrr less.

Aren't they always?
They wanted to charge me $115 for a brake fluid flush. I think I did it for like less than twenty bucks... and they gave me a laundry list of other problems that HAD TO BE DONE RIGHT NOW OMG, most of them were total BS. The final quote was well over $700. If that crap had to be done, they should've done it before they sold me the truck IMO.

Now all that being said, pull the stick and look at the fluid... if it looks horrible and / or smells dirty / burnt, flush it yourself, or at least drop the pan and change the filter and replace the fluid volume you lost when you dropped the pan.

Uhhhhh no need at all for a 2013. Simple statement of fact, Ford calls for a flush at 150k. It's in your manual. Not advocating just saying.
Also search the web. Plenty of factual analysis on this... MerconLV and the large tranny filter used are a great combo.
Friend of the family runs a fleet for a large construction company that uses their trucks hard and tows every day. They do a service at 60k...many trucks over 200k miles. Pavement queen office trucks get the normal 150k service without issue.

I didn't go that far back in the service, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised. And like you said. I've googled, etc. this is my 4th F150, and my last one at trade in had 82,000.. I never once touched the tranny. I did check it out because I didn't know if there was something different with these 6 speeds or not. Thanks for all of the info guys.
