The tach will idle well below zero, but will respond when I step on the gas. It also seems to function appropriately with the engine speed and changing of gears (with questionable accuracy of course). Going down the highway with the cruise control on, its back to around zero or less.

I have heard that the tach-sensor is the culprit, but others say that if the tach sensor goes, the tach shouldn’t respond at all.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
