Default 2011 f150 blown rear???

so this morning on my drive home from work my truck starts to make a strange noise. At first I thought it was my fake skid plate dragging on the road. As I slowed it sounded like maybe my brakes. I get out and have a look and everything seems fine so I baby it down the road. I come to a stop sign and slowly pull out as it makes this moaning sound....well suddenly the whole truck begins to shake violently. I pull into a parking lot and as I am slowly turning I hear very fast clicks and pops as if my rear went out.

Unfortunelty that is where it currently sits and my dealer quoted me 2 grand if it is the rear. They priceD the whole assembly.

Has anyone had anything weird like this happen before? Pretty angry and upset about this...the thing has 68,000 miles on it and I was driving like I normally do...nice and steady. Thanks men!

It's getting towed to the dealer. I'm just curious what they are going to say about it. I have heard of clutch pack issues but don't know if that is related to this.

Unfortunately no...kinda way off the beaten path in PA. And the small mom and pop shops here I don't trust with anything equipped with OBD II and fuel injection.

So apparently somehow the carrier bearing went in the rear with the pinion seal. Not sure how this even happened on a truck with 68,000 on the clock and minimal towing.

Didn't think to have a look at that. I didn't exactly get on my back on the side of a sloppy road to thoroughly inspect.

I did look at the pinion seal though and as far as I could tell it was dry and didn't see any fluids. Maybe I pulled over just in time?

I didn't even know these carrier bearings fail so I didn't look. All I knew was my drive shafts was still on the truck lol. First F150 and first time any of my vehicles came with a two piece drive shafts.

Sorry to hear that. The carrier bearing is pressed on the shaft at the factory. The fix is a new shaft from ford (with same carrier bearing) or an aftermarket driveshaft.

A few of the canadian guys in the 09+ forum have had that happen. Salt and rust eats up the carrier bearing, which growls until it craps out.
