Default 2003 F150 4x4 humming noise drivers side

My son has a 2003 F150 FX4 4x4 with a humming noise on drivers side. Noise gets louder with speed and it seems to be getting worse. He found out the lower ball joints and drivers side control arm. Is the front end issues causing this noise/humming sound ??

Sounds like a wheel bearing. Does it get louder when turning right or left?

A wheel bearing wouldn't give you play when it first starts to go. It just starts howling soft at first and louder as it gets worse. If you leave it long enough it will start wobbling until it overheats the axle and breaks it and the wheel passes you on the road. I would take it in and have it checked first.

I'm with you Bill. I'm advising him to get it done with the suspension work. I'd help him do it but we are leaving Friday for bear hunt. Thanks
