2.7-liter EcoBoost Engine Stalls

This is my first post – thanks for any help!

I have a 2015 F-150 with the new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine. I love it, but … it’s been in the shop twice for a problem that the dealer cannot figure out. On two occasions not long after very hard rains with the truck parked outside, it stalled during steady-state driving on level road. I’m driving along and it just stalls! BTW – yes, I am aware that this engine shuts down when stopped to save gas (but this is running at 45 mph). On both occasions, the Powertrain Malfunction warning light came on but it re-started and ran seemingly okay for a time. The first occasion, on the third time it wouldn’t start and the cranking time override kicked in. The second occasion, it stalled 4 times but I got back to my driveway. Both occasions involved the truck being towed to the dealer. They say that it does not bring in a hard code and they cannot get it to repeat the problem - even used power washer on it to try and simulate the conditions. Has anyone had a similar experience or have any ideas?

Yes this has happened to me three times since January. Dealer cannot replicate and offers no solutions. I even got the regional service manager involved to request a replacement vehicle. Denied. I am at a loss and feel very unsafe driving it. I feel defeated and at a loss with a defective vehicle.

Have both of you looked into possible lemon law proceedings. This definitely seems like appropriate scenario

Colorado lemon law states that there has to be 4 instances of the issue within 1 year of taking delivery. Not as consumer friendly as other states. I hit a year 2 weeks ago. I feel royally screwed with no recourse. It is nuts.

Only thing I can think of is maaaaaybe throttle body, as there have been some reported issues with some of them.

The local Ford SA said that if he had to guess it would be the throttle body. But, Ford won't let him replace it without "proof". Meaning they replicate it or codes get more specific. Mind you that I got the latest incident (3rd occurrence) on camera. No one cares. The Ford brand lost a customer on this. They don't care about that either, though.

I have a 2015 doing the same thing. I pulled a 16’ cargo trailer from Oklahoma to Kentucky and my truck died every time I pulled off the interstate to fuel up. SOB just about didn’t make it across oncoming traffic at a left turn stop light. Its a dangerous situation.

this happened to me today although not on the highway. Truck would start but immediately shut off. If it ran for more than a few seconds i could get it in gear and go but would stall when i stopped again. Dealer couldn't find any codes but will look again tomorrow

Anymore if there isn't a code they throw up their hands really quick. Maybe it's the nature of the business anymore at dealership service departments, but trouble shooting is not one of their strong points.

new throttle body installed, never was any codes thrown.
