1996 F150 5.0 popping and missing
Hello All,
First and foremost, thanks for all the replies ahead of time.
I have a 1996 F150 5.0
we purchased the vehicle under the assumption it would be an easy fix. After a few days of “parts swapping” and tinkering we’ve come to the conclusion we need to tear this thing down to the head gaskets and start fresh. I have repaired several of these trucks along with tearing down to replace head gaskets. It’s not that bad of a job however in this particular occasion I’d rather not do this if i can prevent it.
At this point in time it takes a lot to get it going and doesn’t usually stay running unless we idle up the truck and hold the throttle open at a higher intake.
Once the truck gets warm the motor starts popping and missing extremely bad....... (Although it doesn’t pop, it still missing the same cold)
ive replace:
MAF
IAC
DISTRIBUTOR
PLUGS
COIL
CLEANED THROTTLE BODY
ADJUSTED TIMING
ETC ETC
i guess I’m hoping for a miracle to not have to tear into this thing unless i have to. Any and all info helps and is greatly appreciated!
Thank you
p.s. I tried to upload a video and it kept failing.

Popping and missing ...sounds like timing defiantly. have you checked for a clogged cat ?

I have not checked for a clogged cat. Would that cause a misfire? I haven’t checked compression yet in all cylinders that’s my plan for today when i get home. Is there a way to tell the difference between and blown head gasket and broken piston rings?
