Default 100K+ Miles Maintenance Recommendations?

Hello,

I have a 2013 F150 FX4 5.0L with 108K miles that I've owned since 2016. It's been a damn good truck and every time I think of maybe upgrading, I have stop and ask myself why?! I've never actually owned a vehicle this long and and so I'm starting to think more about proactive maintenance on a higher mileage vehicle.

I've followed all the standard stuff in the owner's manual (including spark plugs, coolant flush/fill, etc), but I'm now wondering about things like:
  • Timing/accessory belts. Would it make sense to just proactively change?
  • Front/rear differential fluid? I don't even see this in the owner's manual?
I drive it about 350 miles a month and haven't towed anything heavy (travel trailer) with it since 2016-2020, back when it had about 75K miles.

There is no timing belt. Timing chains do not require periodic replacement. Take a look at the accessory drive belts. If you notice wearing/cracking, replace them. I'm at 90k and still on original belts. Will be changing before 100k. At 100k, the only recommended maintenance is to replace the coolant. This assumes everything else has been done according to the manual. The manual does state to change front/rear fluids and replace accessory drive belts every 150k. No harm in doing it all now. Up to you.

Something important you didn’t mention: transmission. Especially to keep leadframe issues at bay. At least drop the pan, change the filter and replace the 7-8 quarts that come out.

I’d do the transfer case too, super easy.

I would do the belt/tensioner. Inspect the water pump for any weeping. I would also do the gear lube/transfer case fluid. I would be doing the trans with a complete fluid change out. To full capacity. Not just a pan drop. Though some people just do, or have a pan drop/filter only done.
I try to do things before rec from Ford. I think they are pushing things out a little far for my taste.

Gives a good indication of wear/contaminates when draining trans/transfer case/axles fluids.......... If there is any water or metal contamination, you will be glad you did the fluid change outs.
I did the belts/tensioner, and coolant flush on my 2016 Focus. But on closer inspection I noticed the water pump weep hole was just starting to leak a slight amount. Needless to say I replaced it with 106,000 miles. At the very least maybe check water pump bearing play. My daughter has a 2015 Expedition with 135,000 miles. That water pump had major play on it. It was an OE pump. It was not weeping. So you can have the bearing be going bad with no weep, or like my Focus bearing no play with weeping.

If you replace the belts, don't cheap out on not replacing the tensioner.

Youre right. At 12 years and 108k, I’d do all of the fluid too. Guess I was posting on past experience only. I did a pan drop/filter change at 60k and would do another one of those at 90k, but I’ll have a new truck before then.

I envy you. I will die with my 2012 I think....... newer truck is not in the cards/bank account. I could blow through my retirement savings, if I was an idiot..........

wiper blades motorcraft
wagner oex pads and rotors, napa park brake shoes (oex front pads defective - changed to auto zone elites front and back)
Carquest front brake hoses
Carquest premium front calipers
gates belts, tensioners and idler pulley
evaporative purge valve/solenoid motorcraft
brake fluid flush dot 4lv motorcraft
oil change kirkland synthetic and fram endurance
lead frame software recall 24S37
Ford OEM lead frame
Ford Transmission cooler, cooler lines and filter

Still a lot cheaper than a car payment, hopefully good for awhile.

curious if all the leadframe/trans items listed were done preemptively? if not, what kind of symptoms had you experienced? lastly, how many miles on your truck, and do you know if it had had trans pan serviced regularly or not ? thanks.

Replaced trans items before failure. Known problem components. I took care of on my schedule once I decided to keep the truck I dropped the pan and did drain and fill with ford fluid at 70k.
