Just got back from harbor freight. I bought an oil/water separator instead of desiccant filter. Seemed like the same thing according to quick internet search, and better quality too -- the dessicant filter was like $2 and just red plastic (?).
Bought the purple HVLP gun w/regulator and installed the separator right below the regulator.

Before you start, using the drain on the bottom of your compressor, open it and bleed out any moisture.

Oh yeah absolutely, I'll probably do that and leave it open for an hour out in the sun

I don't know what reducer or activator is. According to the paint site, it says it's a basecoat and then I bought a can of acryclic lacquer clear coat. I'm essentially buying what they recommend. I bought the ready to spray quarts

Other options (premixed aerosols, single stage base/clear mixes, etc) are all compromises in final finish.

thats why I said what I did earlier. Where do you live? What are your current temps? Ask the paint supplier what temperature reducer they used for reducing the paint for spraying.

Is tuxedo black the metalic one? If yes, you may want to buy some spray out cards to see how your technique is going to lay down the metallic paint. The ones I bought are clear and you spray and when they dry, you flip them over and they looked clear coated and finished.

you are going to need a cheap can of reducer to clean your gun afterwards. Get at local auto parts.

i bought these from USA. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Tec-91416-Clearcoat-Sprayout-Cards-50pc-Bodyshop-Spray-Flip-Match-Paint/312072519291?epid=1007907805&hash=item48a8f8be7b:g :LKwAAOSwjXRXY94x

I'm northeast of Sacramento, and it's starting to cool down here finally, this coming week will be in the low 80s, 50s by midnight, and we're about 10-35% humidity.

Yes, Tuxedo Black is very slightly metallic, but doesn't require a separate pearl coat. The paint site supplies several paint cards for practice

I don't know how you do it. Nothing makes me as miserable and cranky and unpleasant as humidity. I plan entire vacations around weather and humidity levels.
Thailand, Cancun, and Bahamas? No thanks.
Bring on Wyoming, Alaska, and Finland.
