Default Cheap center console solution for 09-14 F150

So I got ambitious because I don't care for the floor mounted cupholders. I kept thinking of solutions, and finally found a cupholder for my devious plan.

So I started by removing the jump seat headrest.

I then took a Sharpie market and inserted it in the hole that the headrest post goes in, and held the cupholder in the position I wanted it in. (Do this for both sides)

I then drilled two holes using that funky bit in the first picture.

I then determined where I wanted to fold the bottom portion of the cupholder because it hit the seat bottom, and I didn't want to hinder the use of the jump seat. I used a jigsaw and soldering iron (actually, it is one of those wood burning tools that has a blade tip) I cut notches on the sides of the cupholder, then with a metal level, I scored the back side of the cupholder to create a line to fold on. I then used the soldering iron to plastic weld the folder piece in place. I then marked an area to cut notches where the plastic base of the headrest posts would hit. I then put the cupholder onto the headrest and reinstalled in the truck.

And here is the finished result. Just an FYI, due to the headrest sticking out to allow for the cupholder, it does block the use of the floor cupholder. Thing is, this can be removed in just a few seconds if needed, and the truck is completely unmodified.

Oh, I almost forgot... when you put the cupholder onto the headrest, you have to squeeze the padded part underneath the cupholder spots. See picture...

The cupholder was $6.99 at AutoZone, and the drill bit was $11.99. if you have a 1/2" drill bit, this mod will cost you $6.99 and about an hour or so of your time. I wasn't willing to locate and spend hundreds of dollars for a jump seat with factory cupholders, so this was my solution. No I can get that stereo system I want!

I'm surprised that somebody hasn't come out with a cup holder that just plugs right into the backrest eliminating the headrest altogether.

This mod is also in another post with detailed instructions. I updated mine with a different today since I finally swapped jumpseats. Lether covered one from Amazon.
