5.4 to 6.2 swap
Hi, my 2009 platinum has 190k and has pulled a camper. The ‘ole 5.4 is getting weak and the tranny’s starting to have shifting issues. I absolutely love this truck and can’t afford a new one or want payments. Is it feasible to swap the 5.4 with a low mileage 6.2 and tranny ?
thanks

if it were me, I'd do a 5.0. Motor is just as good but not nearly as thirsty. Much easier to find a 5.0. But I don't see this as being an easy swap given the differing generations of truck and motor technology.
Worst case, find a rebuilt jasper 5.4 and swap in, and have the trans rebuilt. Much cheaper.

I think the electrical / electronics would be a can of worms. It might make a good MIT shop project, but I wouldn't touch it. You best bet is a fresh 5.4 in a box.

I'm pretty sure you can punch a 5.4 out to 6.1. That way you keep all your stock wiring, gain some hp/tq and don't have the headache of having to fab something.

Supercharge the 5.4
Have you considered supercharging a rebuilt 5.4? It’ll save you a ton of headaches in swapping to a different engine and give you the same or more power.
The supercharger will probably set toy back $5000 but the saved time to remove and replace vs a swap to 6.2 would make it worth it. Not to mention a 6.2 with accessories and harness and Ecu probably costs quite a bit more than a 5.4 long block.

Load and Charge
If you can find a doner truck that has a good drivetrain, harnesses and ECU, you may be able to get the swap done without much fab work, but it won’t just be a few nuts and bolts and an engine hoist like an old 60’s muscle car. If you have the time, money and patience it would be a really cool project to swap a 5.0 into it though it probably won’t be cheaper then having the current motor and trans rebuilt and adding a whipped or TVS.
