Default Which year F-150 to buy...

Please point me to a link if this has already been discussed as I tried searching...

I’m looking for a late model F-150 Lariat or KR either new or used. Question is, which year is the most dependable with the lowest maintenance cost? I’ll be highway driving mostly so will rack up some miles. Think I’ve decided the 5.0 is the way to go on the engine, but which year was best (2015+) ?

thanks in advance for any help y’all can provide!!!

I like the 5.0 paired with the 6 speed so I'm biased. 2016 came with Sync 3.

Agreed, the 5.0 is more perfectly paired with the 6-speed rather than the current 10-speed configuration.

I did find (1) 17 5.0 6speed here still new, but they want an 18 price for it.

My 2016 5.0 has not had any issues. I bought it new and it now has 47,000 miles on it.

2015 or higher you are better off buying new. Especially if you can get a leftover 18 they are giving STEEP discounts.

Myself and me mate both bought new 5.0’s in ‘16.

Rock solid and bullet proof and he pulls his Airstream cross country, twice a year.

Pecked out on my iPhone.

If you're interested in used, 2016's might be getting turned in on 3-yr leases now. I like the sync 3 option as well (i've got a 2015). I don't mind the 6-speed either.
As others have said, if you're thinking new, a good deal can be had on a '18 right now if you can find the one you want.

It seems they keep making at least incremental improvements with each model year... probably can't go wrong either way.

Good luck, and post pix!

I also think 2016 is the sweet spot with the 5.0. The 6 speed is rock solid, and Sync 3 is a huge upgrade over the previous version. I love my 2016, although my dad has a 2018 5.0 with the 10 speed and I don't think it's as bad as I've read on here.

I've had both the 6 speed and the 10 speed and I prefer the 10 speed. Also the 6 speed is being phased out so when you sell the 6 , it won't fetch as high a price on the used truck market. Times are changing and I prefer to go with the new tech. For me the 10 speed shifts more smoothly and adjusts better to different road conditions. If you buy a 2019 whatever bugs the 10 speed had should be fixed and you'll also benefit from better fuel millage.

Just a POI... the 2018+ 5.0 engines now have direct and port injection and they most (if not all) have the off throttle engine rattle when cold.
