Ya, another 10 spd thing

In terms of technology, your 4R100 is a horse and buggy and the 10R80 is a Ferrari. Different worlds. The biggest reason they made such a change is spelled CAFE.

I expect horse and buggy performance from my latest and greatest 10 speed trans also. This trans works good for the quarter mile but the strategy programming is way off for normal driving. It gets confused often. I pull into my driveway which is on a slight incline and it wants to stay in third and you have to sit there and press down on the accelerator nearly to the floor before it will drop down in first and go on. Just venting here sorry. Maybe some more reprogramming will come down the line.

The really odd thing is how so many people can have such varied experiences with this transmission. For instance, mine had the weird hang between 3-4-5 depending on throttle input. The reflash fixed that, and now my tranny works great.

Is it a 10 speed thing or an operator error thing?

X2,mine had the clunky 3-5th shift until the TSB was done much better now!!

It’s a automatic transmission and it should perform like every other automatic I’ve ever had when in drive mode. I do not want to drive always in manual mode which I can make it do what I expect. The TSB did help mine but it stil has a lot of improving to do.

I'll let you guys know as i've been tuning these newer fords that every single year model i get i compare the transmission programming to the previous year and there are changes everywhere every single time. hundreds of small little changes everywhere to the shifting profiles and characteristics. It is getting and will get better.

Putting Ferrari and our crappy tranny in the same sentence is 'fanboy' territory. Ha ha. Anyway, mine clunked from D to R when I shifted to R STOPPED, but the damn thing took longer to engage than it should, so when I release the brake, thinking it was already engaged, the truck started moving a hair, and that's when I heard the bang. In other words, the truck was stopped when I shifted into R, but when it decided to actually shift, the truck began to move but super slowly. I have to get it in reverse into the garage, and since I was parked in the middle of the street with a car coming, I gave it like a second to shift... but it needed 2. Ha ha. Since that lonely episode, now I don't even attempt any maneuver that requires either D/R or R/D shifting unless I have time to feel the truck shifted while fully stopped.

Only a TRUE FANBOY will stick their head in the sand and say this 10 speed works properly. It does work well in a 1/4 mile drag race but it has LOTS of issues during daily driving. Ford should have never released this 10 speed until they worked out the bugs. Anyone used to a 4 or 6 speed automatic will notice a lot of weird stuff happening.
