XLT or Lariat Advice

My 15 was an XLT and as far as climate controls go I had a remote start added by a local truck shop and it unlocked the auto climate controls and worked flawless.

Just to dial in on the 4A vs 4H difference between the trucks, any advice from XLT owners in northern climates? Here in Minnesota, we get a lot of conditions where the roads aren't fully snow covered but they are also not comfortable to drive with a rear wheel vehicle. Where is the 'limit' for running in 4H? 4A is great on my Lariat for pretty much all winter driving. I feel like I'd probably be going in and out of 4H a lot without it. For example, my daily route includes a right turn onto a 55 mph road with a fairly steep uphill element. I can easily spin the rear tire even on dry pavement. But in 4H there is probably too much grip unless fully snow covered.

Went from a fully loaded 2010 Lariat to a 2016 302A XLT with the lights in the bed and the liftgate step.
Missed...
Memory seats! Badly. Wife is short, I am tall, we swap daily on what is driven (2016 Mustang GT, fully loaded, is our other vehicle)
Sunroof
Cooling seats
Dual air control
Ambient lighting (Actually nice to have with kids or animals during the winter months)
20" Pirelli tires (The 18" Goodyears are craaaaaaaaaaaaaap)
Do not miss...
Fake wood trim. We love the carbon look in the 2016.

So, I went from a 2011 Lariat to a ... 2015 Lariat!
I know the sticker price is higher, but if your current truck is in good shape and doesn't have a ton of miles on it (my 2011 had 36k on it when I traded it in), the trade-in value will do wonders, especially if your current truck is paid off or close to it (I still owed a little on my 2011).
At the end of the day, I ended up driving away in a 2015 Lariat, damn near fully loaded (had $59k MSRP), having traded in my 2011 Lariat (original MSRP: $45k), with a lower payment.
Something to think about, especially if you're gonna miss some of the creature comforts your current truck has.

In regards to the Minnesota poster above, I've got an XLT . To be honest, I've never owned a pickup with 4A, but have had two Explorers with 4A.
My actual preference in the vehicles with 4A is to run them in 4H when conditions warrant using the 4 wheel drive capability anyways. I prefer the feel of knowing the power distribution versus some of the jerkiness that occurs with the 4A system as it detects some wheel slippage and redirects power.
I look at this way - if I am driving fast enough to be worried about whether I am in 4H or not, then either I don't need it or I am driving too fast for the conditions!
Honestly has not been a problem or issue in the 100,000s of thousands of miles I've logged in F150's to date... Even in the scenario you described, the uphill right hand turn, I've never had an issue, even when in 4H. There's usually some ice/slick surface/sand/ etc... that allows some slippage to occur...

I had a 2012 Loaded FX4 and traded for a 2015 XLT.
I mostly miss my leather seats and don't like the 6-bar grill which will be fixed shortly......I ordered a Lariat grill and Katzkin leather seat covers, both for a little over $800.00.
I did have HIDs on my 12 while the 15 has just halogens. The 15 halogens are a vast improvement over the 12's version due to the dual reflectors. The only other thing I would like to have is a center shifter (I do have the full console though).

Platinum R.R.
Advice on Dealerships.
If you don't know anyone at your local Ford dealership play one against the other.
Find out what Truck you want. Have them throw out some numbers and go to the next one.
Your not going out to dinner with them or to a movie. This is a Business using real money. Your Money.
or,
Try some kind of Auto Broker.
I went from a Lariat to a Platinum with no regrets.
My 2014 Lariat was loaded but the Platinum has a lot more.
I like the Push Button Start, All L.E.D. Lights, Twin Moon Roof, Padded Arm Rest, Spot Lights, Blis, My Dog will like the Rear Heated Seats, Etc. Those options should be available on the X.L.T. & Lariat.
When I was picking out my truck I saw a Loaded 2016 Lariat for over $63,000. I think it had about everything you could get.
You can load up your X.L.T. or Lariat like you wish.
It depends what options you have to have and can afford.
Good Luck on this one.
My Sony Sirius radio work great. The speakers are OK.
If your an Audiophile than only Silver wires & Mega $$ speakers will work for you. Not many people want to spend more for their Sound System than they did for a Truck that will wear out in time.

First, I don't need leather....I hate having to apply conditioner on a regular basis to my truck seats....they WILL still eventually crack & get ugly lines all in them.
Second, I absolutely HATE that rear sliding window. It looks like they stole a porthole out of a boat....
Lastly, the more electronic crap you opt for on your vehicle, that's just more crap that WILL eventually fail.
I ordered my F150 XLT & picked every option I wanted & couldn't be happier. The XLT is BY FAR the best bang for your buck in a truck.
