How many Ford dealers in this country do you think ever had a dynamometer? Maybe a small handful who do serious in-house performance work.......but a typical Ford repair shop? Psh, no way.

No because it needs road conditions to be simulated. If you have ever looked up the drive cycles for OBDII systems, the requirements are just flat out dumb. Usually they can force some of the monitors with the scan equipment, but most of the time we just tell our customers to go drive it like normal for 50-100 miles.

In Texas, 95% of dealers have dyno's. They aren't performance related. Inspection and emissions related. If you don't have an in house dyno you are restricted to 165 inspections a month per machine. So either buy 30 inspection machines... or install one dyno.

Quick story that makes me cynical. Bought new in 2003 a Ford Explorer. Brought it for tranny service.
Mechanic told my wife no problem found and tranny fluid level was fine. My wife challenged mechanic and perceived as a dumb blonde as the mechanic to show her where the dipstick is to check fluid level. Mechanic came out, opened hood and search for dipstick but couldnt find it.
My wife said there is no dipstick in 03 the only way to check fluid or add fluid is to drop the pan.

Anywho. I would just let them worry about the fix, and let them make any assessments and repairs and make sure the problem doesn't duplicate. Just make sure you ask them that they got all the monitors up to ready status, or then there is no reason for them to drive it like that.

If they insist then I would just ride with them for the 60 miles, bring a magazine and phone and that way the mechanic wont hit redline in every gear and do burnouts
