Yes, the truck is more expensive. Welcome to the world of inflation and technological advancements. I feel sorry for folks who are going to pay that $60,000 when they can get the same truck for thousands less later on down the road. But to each their own.

Don't let MSRP fool you, the price will be offset with rebates.

Yep. I remember when you could buy a box of cereal and a half gallon of milk for under a dollar.

You either step up to the plate and pay the man or you do without.

But Ford is not alone in pricing. They want to be (they have to be) competitive with the other manufacturers.
They know what they have, a significant improvement on the status quo. Yet they are only charging a small premium compared to the other brands.

But still, I hate the way Ford does their pricing. Last time I tried to do a bright blue XLT, the build and price said it was a no cost option. Yet when I click on it, I have to buy $2000.00+ worth of other stuff that I may not want!

That's ridiculous for a half-ton truck, you can easily pick up a diesel super duty or Ram HD for that kind of money.

Ford better wake up, in August their truck sales dropped almost 5%, while Ram's sales increased over 33%, and GM increased over 12%. They are betting the farm on this aluminum body, and I don't think it's really going to pan out for them...

More I think about it, the aluminum move is such a huge gamble that I don't think the move will last for more than about 5 years. I think it definitely doesn't make it past this generation. Ford has been trying a little too hard for the past 3-4 years. Eventually the use of aluminum will be cost prohibitive and Ford will no longer be able to subsidized its use and it's repair costs for such a high volume vehicle. I think they have bitten off more than they can chew so get your collectors item while you can.

But as to pricing. I love all the Neato features on today's trucks but the pricing is getting ridiculous.
Lol, this coming from a guy who has $80k worth of pickup trucks in his garage.... If you want nice things you gotta pay.

I think Ford will get a year or two sales bump but then level off as pricing and insurance for the aluminum trucks continue to rise and competition, especially RAM, counters with their new models.
The fight for second place is on and Ford will lose some market share but it will take a disaster to lose its #1 position. GM should be worried. Their all new truck is a flop. If RAM continues their current formula of being the only company giving truck guys what they want, good looks, strong and efficient V8s with V6 AND diesel options, nice options while keeping the most competitive pricing, then second place with be theirs for the taking. RAM is in the drivers seat as they are the last in line to do a all new model launch.

As to the sales race....I think that GM's and GMC's new Canyon and Colorado mid sized trucks arereally going to canibilize their full size truck sales.

Ford should have invested in a diesel for the F150. In 2015, even the lowly Titan is being redesigned with a Cummins diesel, that should be interesting. I think that the F150 that I have will be my first, and last. It's just not doing anything for me...

I love that people think aluminum isn't going to last! Lol, it will be on every vehicle pretty soon. Ram's sales went up because they are finally making a quality looking truck as well as one that gets 28mpg, that mpg is monster.

The only way ford will be in trouble is if that 2.7L doesn't come close to Rams.

Ford's sales dropped 5% because they had a 5 year old truck with decent engines up against brand new offerings. People got tired of buying the same thing over and over every couple of years, so they traded to a different brand. Sales always drop in the last year of a current body style.

People think using a different metal for the body panels is the end of the world, I think it's the beginning of a brand new market segment. It's going to bring in repeat customers, customers from other trucks as well as people from their German/Japanese cars who want more capability for a growing family and their activities but don't want to skimp on quality or features. If you compare a loaded Platinum against useless crap like Land Rover Evoques and other expensive small SUV's that don't have any more features, it's a bargain. But "OMG Thats too much money for a Ford!!" I'd make the same argument with an Evoque. That's a really expensive Ford Escape, literally.

If you don't want a $60k truck, don't equip it with all of the extra goodies not available on a 2014 that hike up the price. If you want the extra goodies but don't want to pay for them, quit bitching.

To the guy that said you could get a Ram HD or Superduty, REBATES. For god's sake people. These trucks aren't going to be $60k for long. Even if they stayed at $60k I'd buy the new F-150 before I'd buy a Superduty with less features, a crappy interior, a crappy ride and a 15 year old cab and bed design.

Much ado about nothing. Ford's sales dropped because there's anticipation about the '15 truck coming out. Some people are waiting to pick up deeper discounts on any remaining '14s when the '15s hit the dealers, some are waiting for a '15. It's pretty much what was predicted 6 months ago to happen during the changeover.

As to the "easily pick up a diesel SuperDuty yadda yadda" your logical error is to compare MSRP on the upcoming '15 to real transaction prices on the existing models. It's not very likely in the current market that Ford will be able to demand MSRP from the new truck after the first few weeks of deliveries to the "gotta have the first one" crowd. Comparing a '15 diesel Superduty (Lariat Ultimate) to a roughly equivalent build of a '15 F150 Ecoboost (Lariat 502A) the SuperDuty is $8,010 more MSRP.

Yeah, I've given up on debating with people who want to make the disingenuous comparison of the new F-150's sticker price to that of the competition when heavily discounted. I think at the end of the day that the Ford will be a couple thousand more than the GM & Ram offerings, and if they aren't selling at the rate Ford hopes for, then they will discount them until they do.

All new vehicles are ridiculously expensive and it sucks, but that's the way it is. Who ever thought that you could spend over $60K for a Kia?
