Would purchase a Ford Buy Back Truck.

Would purchase a Ford Buy Back Truck.
I found a completely loaded ‘16 Lariat with only 8k miles. Color combo I’ve been looking for. The issue is prior owner brought it in for leaking sunroof. Thy tried to repair, but ended up r placing the front glass. They also found mold and dropped headliner and replaced all carpet and some trim pieces. Service claims leak is fixed. Would you purchase this truck at a discount or be worried about long term problems?

Personally I wouldn't touch it. I think the chance of recurrence is just too high.

If the price was right, and under warranty, then yeah I would do it. More often though I find the price is only a little less and not worth the risk. I think they know sooner or later someone will bite on it and get it at only a slightly lower price.

2016 Lariat 5.0
It would have to be priced significantly lower than similar trucks for me to take a chance on it. On top of that I would make the dealer throw in an extended warranty.

my first thought was to run, which I did. Now I’m wondering if I could $4-5k less than comparable Trucks and get a Ford backed extended warranty, it might be worth it. I hope

There is a reason it was a buyback.... there are millions of other viable trucks out there. Keep looking.
I'm pretty sure a buyback gets a branded title as well which can make it difficult to register, title, and insure. Not to mention, damn near impossible to resell. Unless you are someone who truly "drives the wheels off" and buys a nrw truck every 15 yrs, PASS.

Just for example I found many higher mileage 15-16 lariats and platinum's for 0-5k less than what I got my new 17 XLT for, but the risk wasn't worth it to me. I gave up options to have a brand new and full warranty truck.

Yes a branded title, but NOT a mechanical issue. Interesting. If you are the type to drive a pickup into the ground, then it might be a bargain. I personally don't care for a sunroof, so I would just run sealant around it. problem solved. I had a friend that bought a buyback Caravan many years ago. He got a good deal and he was hard on cars. We knew it had an early valve failure in the engine. At 70k miles it again burned a valve. We pulled the heads and while doing the repair we found the cause. A valve lifter that was defective and not releasing oil when it should, keeping 1 valve clearance too tight. Same valve that burned when new.
I bought the van after it had been serviced at a shop and the mechanic left a rag on the engine and it caught fire. Yup I bought a lemon law buyback insurance total van!
Sold it to a friend that needed cheap wheels. When they were don with it (the family drove by braille) it was sold again to another family that patched the dings and kept going.
I would feel more comfortable with a leaking sunroof buyback than an engine repair or trans repair buyback
