Ford can suck it! There is an obvious issue with the paint, it shoul dnot do what it did even from a chip, but Ford denied it.

When the paint finish has been compromised (chipped) the exposed paint finish is vulnerable to the elements if not properly maintained (touched up).

As such, the previous non-warrantable determination is the most accurate.

However, the close up images shows the paint is chipped. Chipped paint will occur when a object from an outside source comes in contact with the vehicle paint finish.

In addition, the durability of the paint on steel and aluminum body panels is equal.

So, the clear coat spidering from the chip is because of the chip? I don't know of you guys, but I have never ever seen paint do this from a chip in the paint. I don't even know how to fix it short of respraying the panels.

Then, I saw the warrantable stuff, and guess what. I might have something that is covered. We'll see. I got my truck about a month ago and noticed in the first few days on the first wash that an area of paint has a roughness to it. In the 80s when my friends and I built a BMX ramp, we got the same effect by mixing sand in the paint for grip. This area is only on the area behind the back, passenger side door, and it is nothing like the "bumpy" area you see along the very bottom of the truck.
Thanks,
Mike

Yeah - I started a thread on this a couple of weeks back. The chipping is flat out ridiculous. Mine is just shy of 6 months old and I have chips to the metal in several places.

It is absolutely ridiculous.

I have a friend who has been a body shop owner for many, many years. He says the paint on all vechiles is crap anymore. Something about having to make the paint environmentally friendly (google for details). He recommended paint protective film if you wanna keep it looking nice. Expensive, but that's what I ended up doing.

Chips I can deal with, it's a way of life up here, its the clear coat coming off the base coat that is wrong. Clear coat if applied correctly should bond to the base coat and not separate. If the truck were 2 or 3 years old and this happened, I can deal with it, but I had the truck 4 months!

Since its a tri-coat paint, anything done to it to repair the clear will stand out. Looks like a trip to the body shop is in order before it grows.

Thanks to cost reduction and the EPA the paints today is just crap.

I saw a new Learjet a few years ago right out of the factory with a craptastic paint job. The owner wasn't pleased after spending $20m for it.

Get a touchup pen, and touch the chips the moment they happen, so that when the clear does come off, then Ford can't BS you like they did me.

I hate to see people with paint problems. Sometimes cause by the owner and sometimes by the manufacture. If I am leasing I do the basic cleaning of the truck. If I am keeping a truck for awhile like I am on my 15 Platinum I make sure the paint is as close to perfect as I can get it. A soon as I picked up my truck the work began. The dealing did NOTHING when my truck came in as I asked them to NOT touch it. The truck had a full paint correction done to make the paint as close to perfect as can be done with a factory paint job. Then I had Xpel paint protectant film installed on the entire front end of the truck. After that Modesta Paint Coating was applied on the entire truck. Now with proper washing my paint looks as good today two years and 26,000 later as it did when the truck was first done.

If my paint looked like the OP's paint the truck would be down to the dealer as fast as I could get it there. That is bad factory paint. Hope it gets taken care of.

The downside of buying a new truck in January in the snow belt. Never had a chance to do a completed once over until April. Every chance I had to get the truck washed, it got nasty out.

One of the bad spots is on the drivers rear door, that entire side got peppered with rock salt from a plow going the other direction.

Rock salt did all the damage, I have never had that happen before.
