Wipers Won't Stop
You are not alone. There are lots of reports of this problem starting and stopping over many months to more than a year. And slow, fast, both. It’s maddening. So strange. many times when there is an issue, it’s very repeatable and has a narrow set of symptoms, but not this one! I think because it’s electronic, so all bets are off.
You have a repair in the future.

Add me to the list of those who experienced the wipers not turning off yet my turn signals worked fine.
I have a 2015 XLT 302A w/63k miles on it and replaced the wiper/signal switch with Motorcraft PN SW7917. I compared the old and new one and they were identical.
When I installed the new one I didn't turn the wheel to the left. On the test drive the signal wouldn't self cancel, I had to cancel it myself.
And so I got home, pulled the new switch out and the little white arm/thingy that protrudes into the steering column had snapped off.
I'm wondering now if turning the wheel left is extremely important when installing it. I've got another one on order and it should be here tomorrow. I'll install it "wheel left"
to see if that works.
