Exactly what happened to me, mine somehow tripped the automatic lights to always stay on. I could manually shut them off, but in automatic mode it didnt matter if it was sunny or cloudy out they would always be on. They went back to normal after the switch was replaced.

Here were the part numbers that I used to replace mine:
FL3Z-13K359-AC OR Motorcraft SW-7917

Search for both p/n's and find the cheapest. Tasca offers the FL3Z-13K359-AC for ~$32.78 however the shipping was ~$9. This made for $41. I started searching for the Motorcraft p/n and found a vendor on Amazon $ 35.35 w/ free shipping. I know a few bucks is not a lot, but I am always trying to get the most for my money. I ordered the Motorcraft SW-7917 and it came in a box labeled with both p/n's (SW-7917 & FL3Z-13K359-AC).

Replacement was a breeze, remove three screws under steering wheel holding the column plastic guard (I think these were 11/32") then carefully separate the two plastic pieces. The switch is held in by two T10 screws. Remove the T10 screws and the switch will slide right out. Install the new switch and re-assemble. This took me 10-15 minutes tops with the hardest part being separating the covers.

I was disappointed that this happened to my 3 year old truck with only 40k miles, but it was an easy fix.
Has this fixed the issue for good? mine is doing it and it drives me insane

I had the same issue when my 2016 was about 1.5 years old. The defect was intermittent. Ended up taking it to the dealership and they replaced the control switch under warranty.

Looking like it's the turn signal stalk. Remove the stock from the steering column and completely tore it down. Everything looks fine inside of it. As soon as I plug it back in wipers come on. I tried to open up the actual Barrel part U turn to turn on the wipers. Couldn't get that part open. So I just turned the barrel past the off position and now wipers are not on but are on when in intermittent low/high position. New signal stalk coming soon.

I had this problem with my '16 and also '18 they had to replace the stalk on both. Sounds like they need to find a new supplier

My 2016 SCrew did this a few times last month - drove me nuts the days it acted up on my drives into work. I made an appointment with the dealer and OF COURSE it stopped malfunctioning a few days before I could take it in. I have tried and tried, but I cannot get it to malfunction again. Thankfully I have an extended warranty - so if it pops up again I will take it in.

It's common across all makes. Even big trucks... I've had to replace them on both a Freightliner and an International fire engine.
