Just to bring this thread back to life. We had -35C/-31F (ambient, not windchill) and lost all heat. Was using the block heater. My truck is a 2016 3.5L EcoBoost, stainless block heater (not the brass one) and running orange Motorcraft coolant.

Checked both hoses at the firewall, temperature different over spec, confirmed by the dealer who replaced the heater core (I wasn't going to pull a dash in -35C in a parking lot) and replaced the coolant with Yellow.

Any more info anyone has gotten on this? Definitely seems like an issue with that Orange Coolant, temps below -20 and potentially block heater use. The dealer had 3 other trucks in the shop the day I picked mine up, all with the same issue. 15-19 models running orange coolant.

It would have been nice for Ford to send a notice of some sort to swap the coolant to Yellow. Would have gladly paid the 150-200$ to get it done instead of the $2500CAD (Parts, Labour and 11% sales tax) bill I just paid.

Also emailed Ford, think there is any chance they'll reimburse even a portion since this is definitely leaning to a manufacturing/engineering defect and not something that is normal wear and tear on a vehicle.

I don't know if Ford will help out any on their good will warranty.
I know one of the local body shops has f150 for a run around parts truck and good friend of mine works there.
He said every truck with that orange goop will fail here.
Another local guy was off warranty and the dealer just handed him the bill.
Ya he was wild.
You could always drag Ford of Canada into small claims court if they refuse as a last resort.
Plugged mine in yesterday 6hrs as it was -38c.
Battery is screwed, wouldn't even click never mind turn the starter 2.5 years in service.
Its going in to the dealer when it warms up. They can fix this scrap.

Ask for the old core as evidence and have the tsb.
A judge will <3 that.

Ya know, the small claims court idea might not be terrible. Even if it brings them to the table and they wanna settle, some compensation is better than no compensation.

The way I see it is if Ford of Canada doesn't want to stand good for the repair then fine sue them.
Minimum they will have to send a lawyer all the way out to small town Saskatchewan to represent themselves in the nearest small claims court to you.
And if they don't show in court in Saskatchewan the small claims judge will automatically find against them so its in their best interest to do something.
