Anyone able to get a pair of peerless (or similar) class S snow chains safely on their F-150 vs snow cables?

I've read a lot of people don't need or use chains/cables on their trucks when it snows. But, I want to be legit when going up the passes in case I get checked by the authorities. A set of snow chains is required almost everywhere up in the mountains where I'm at. And with my factory issued all season road tires, they are not designed for heavy snow and ice. "Light snow" is what Goodyear states for the tires.

So, wanting to have a set with me in hopes of not needing it, I would like a set that is going to work, with no issues. I've read chains are better than cables if you can get them to fit especially on trucks.

Anyone have any good luck with some class S snow chains on their rigs? Been in some deep snowy situations thinking you couldn't make it in/out, but did with the help of chains?

I have used these chains briefly, seem to clear on the back and work well, purchased at O’Reilly Auto Parts: http://lacledechain.com/product/alpi...ck-suv-chains/

If you are going to use sand bags make sure to put them ahead of the rear axle or right over it, not behind it like against the tailgate. Weight added behind the axle can cause a sort of pendulum effect if you find yourself in a spin, making the situation worse.

These fit, are easy to install and s-rated. They are light weight and very suitable for on road use. Also, you can get them at Wal-Mart.

Aren't these the same ones that Les Schwab carries? No issues with the shock towers in the back or loosening up?

I was looking at these exact ones in addition to the one you can get at Les Schwab with the option of returning them for a full refund if not used. How well do these fit on the back of your truck? Any issues with them slipping/loosening? I've heard mix reviews with the auto-tensioner device it has.

I don't know about Les Schwab. I had a set from there once about 8 years ago, and they didn't seem as good of quality as the ones I have now, it's been a while so I could be just imagining it, or Les Schwab uses a different set now.

I have it narrowed down to the Peerless auto trac or, just going to my local Les Schwab and get what they recommend. With their return policy, That's not a bad deal.

... But then there is the peerless Z chain. Low profile cable system avoiding the bigger chain links for the tighter clearances. But, that opens up more dilemas with the different Z chain choices.

Unless you plan on going off road those Auto Trac will hold up fine.
