Will be ordering 2018 XLT Screw 4x4: Should I go 5.0 or 3.5EB?

I’m back in an F-150 (ordered 2-2-18) after two Jeep Wrangler Rubicons. My last one was a 2005 with a 5.4L.
I test drove all three upper power trains with practically identical trucks all with 3.55 rear gears. Back to back to back, all in sport mode, all the same loop. I initially thought I would go TT, but the roar of that coyote engine is intoxicating. Honesty every engine was pretty awesome, not sure there is a bad choice. These things are actually stupid fast/powerful compared to my 2005. All of them. I went with the 5.0 with 3.73s, and I can’t wait. Drive them all, then choose.

No. I've owned 3 and they have all been great.

My 3.5 does seem to make the same acceleration at a lower rpm, but somehow it doesn't seem as powerful or lively. The 2.7 does NOT wind up like a little four-banger, it most definitely has torque. I could not get the 2.7 in the SE package that I wanted so had to go for the 3.5. No matter what you get, make sure you select the 36 gal tank option or you'll be at the gas pump a lot.

I’ve heard folks say this a couple of times. I test drove both the 2.7 and the 3.5 (2018s) and I immediately could tell the 3.5 had more grunt. The 2.7 was noticeably having to work harder to move at th same pace, which is what one would expect of a smaller displacement engine. Interesting hearing the different perspectives.

5.0 if you aren't towing very often, 3.5 if you tow heavy loads regularly. I personally have a 2018 XLT 5.0 with 6.5' box and I love the setup. The 2018 5.0 is a screamer, lots of power and a blast to drive.

I don't know what YOU should do. I got the 3.5EB because I wanted the fuel economy when not towing, the turbos when towing at altitude, and didn't care about the VROOM VROOM V8 sound.

I won't try to influence you. I love my 5.0L.
Just do yourself a favor....think about it enough to avoid buyer's remorse, whichever engine you chose.....
I liked the 3.5EB from our work trucks, I was always spooling the turbo like an on/off switch however.
I picked the V-8 to treat myself to my first new V-8, and maybe my last?
I read that new 2018 5.0L has 16 injectors instead of 8 and no longer uses steel sleeves as cylinder liners, but uses sprayed compound instead (I know racing engines uses it)...anyway, my 2016 5.0L 6 speed feels good to me....I don't like too much innovation all at once....
Call me ignorant or living under a rock, but I prefer an engine with no "power adders". I don't tow enough to need the max tow capability of the F-150. If I was, I would have picked a F-250 gasser.
When I bought my 2016 XLT in sig (302A pack), I could have got a steel F-250 XLT 6.2L for 2 K less sticker price....

More variables than just 3.5 vs 5.0 here. Rear ends, bed length etc.
My advice...Go to the dealership and drive them both. Go home. Come back the next day and buy the one you want.

Remember the old saying, "there's no replacement for displacement " also you get that neat rumble instead of someone farting into a tin can.
