This is why your door locks dont work
Water collects at bottom of the electric motor and seizes the motor shaft at bottom of housing.
Here its removed and I could turn the shaft by the white hub but it took considerable effort. Dipped the bottom in krown t32 penetrating oil.
Here is the bottom and it already looks much better then it was and turns almost freely, i left it in another 30mins and now its like new
Bottom drain hole are not at the right spot leaving water to build up and rust the bottom of the shaft. I will add a small hole at the very bottom
I had the freezing door lock issue all winter, grease helped but not 100%, im sealing the top portion of the lock assembly and leavinf the bottom open and adding a 3rd hole. It got so rusted that it would no longer work regardless of temps....
Hope this helps a little

Reassembled and ready to be installed i used mobil1 grease for the surrounding except for the bottom.

Excellent post - Thanks for sharing this info. I've been fortunate to not be impacted by this issue in my 2016 but am concerned that it may become an issue at some point.
I'm not sure how much more involved this is than the TSBs Ford has released but your fix along with adding the additional water hole looks like it would be more permanent than adding some rain shields and grease.
Unfortunately not all of us are this mechanically savvy.

Now the reason I wanted to show these pics was for a couple of reasons... first one being water is the problem, the second is getting rid of the water is the answer and not so much trying to seal it. Fords tsbs have rain shields, but the issue is more condensation when in the cold mornings but warmer sun in the day creates the difference in temps. No amount of rain shields will stop codensation, and the way the holes are made the water will still pool at the worst spot.
I wounder if the new trucks have different actuators....

Little update, i installed it yesterday and it works great, decided to do the rear passenger side as well and it was clean however it had a water line at the very bottom as well. I sealed the top and drilled a hole at the very bottom. Now i have 2 reasons to be excited for next winter, my new snowmobile and maybe doors that wont freeze lol.
